Seplat Energy Plc has announced a key change to its Board of Directors, appointing renowned African investor and philanthropist, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, as a Non-Executive Director, effective January 22, 2026. The appointment follows the resignation of Mr. Olivier Cleret De Langavant, who stepped down after the completion of Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA’s (M&P) divestment of its 20.07 per cent shareholding in Seplat Energy to a consortium led by Heirs Holdings Limited and Heirs Energies Limited.

Mr. Langavant, who joined the Board in January 2020 as M&P’s nominee, was commended for his exceptional service and strategic contributions during his six-year tenure. According to the Board, his technical expertise and insightful counsel played a significant role in advancing the company’s strategic objectives and overall progress.

Welcoming Mr. Elumelu to the Board, Seplat Energy described him as one of Africa’s most influential business leaders and a globally respected advocate for the continent’s economic transformation. He is the Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, a diversified investment group with interests spanning energy, power, banking, insurance, technology, real estate, hospitality, and healthcare.

Mr. Elumelu also serves as Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group, Heirs Energies, and Transcorp Group, whose portfolio includes Transcorp Power and Transcorp Hotels Plc, Nigeria’s leading hospitality brand.

Beyond the corporate sphere, he is the Founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), established in 2010 to empower African entrepreneurs across all 54 countries on the continent. His leadership and global influence have earned him widespread recognition, including being named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2020 and receiving the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) in 2022.

Mr. Elumelu also sits on several international advisory boards, including UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council and the International Monetary Fund’s Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth.

Commenting on the Board changes, Seplat Energy Chairman, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma, said:
“On behalf of the Board and Management, I wish to express our profound appreciation to Mr. Langavant for his outstanding contribution to Seplat Energy over the past six years. His expertise and commitment have been instrumental in driving our strategic initiatives. We warmly welcome Mr. Elumelu to the Board and look forward to leveraging his wealth of experience and leadership as we continue to pursue sustainable growth and long-term value creation for all stakeholders.”

The Board expressed confidence that Mr. Elumelu’s appointment will further strengthen Seplat Energy’s strategic direction and reinforce its commitment to sustainable growth and long-term success.
