UBA Names Chioma Mang CEO, Africa 1 in Strategic Leadership Move
United Bank for Africa (UBA) has appointed seasoned banking executive Chioma Mang as Chief Executive Officer, Africa 1, reinforcing the Group’s commitment to disciplined growth, strong governance, and institutional resilience across key African markets.
Mang brings to the role decades of senior commercial banking experience, having successfully led multiple UBA subsidiaries across the continent. Her leadership journey spans Liberia, Gabon, and Uganda, where she was instrumental in restoring performance, tightening governance structures, and strengthening risk management frameworks in complex operating environments.
Renowned for her results-driven leadership style, Mang consistently repositioned country operations for sustained profitability, while building resilient institutions and high-performing teams. Under her stewardship, several subsidiaries earned global recognition, including Best Bank honours from the Financial Times of London, testament to her ability to deliver both operational excellence and strategic clarity.
Beyond banking, Mang brings a strong legal and regulatory foundation to the role. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Reading and a Master’s degree in Commercial and Corporate Law from University College London, complemented by executive management programmes from leading global institutions.
In outlining her leadership priorities, Mang emphasised sustainable growth, deeper customer confidence, people development, and long-term value creation across the Africa 1 cluster. She is expected to work closely with country leadership teams, partners, and regulators as UBA continues to deepen its regional footprint.
The appointment has been widely welcomed across the industry. Ernest Chimechefulam Kalu, Chief Strategy Officer at E Brands Corporate Infrastructure, described the Africa 1 role as an economic command centre, noting that Mang’s track record reflects a rare ability to upgrade institutions rather than merely manage them.
Echoing this sentiment, Mary Mulili HSC, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Kenya, welcomed Mang on behalf of the Kenya team, describing the Africa 1 cluster as a unified family committed to strengthening trust, empowering people, and delivering sustainable outcomes across markets.
