Transcorp Hotels Names Awele Elumelu as New Board Chair
Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc, has announced the appointment of Dr. Awele Elumelu as Chair of its Board, effective January 1, 2026.
The announcement, filed with the Nigerian Exchange Limited on Tuesday, follows the retirement of Emmanuel Nnorom, who steps down from the role on the same date.
A Leader Across Sectors
Dr. Elumelu brings a wealth of leadership experience spanning healthcare, insurance, corporate governance, and philanthropy. She currently chairs Avon Healthcare Limited, Nigeria’s leading health insurance provider, as well as Avon Medical Practice, a growing network of hospitals and clinics. She also serves as Chair of Heirs Insurance Brokers and is a founding Director of Heirs Holdings Limited.
A medical doctor by training, Elumelu earned her MBBS from the University of Benin and has practiced in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Her clinical background is complemented by executive education from globally renowned institutions, including Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland, and the London School of Economics.
Commitment to Social Impact
Beyond corporate leadership, Elumelu is a Trustee and Co-Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Africa’s foremost philanthropy dedicated to empowering young entrepreneurs. Through the foundation, she has championed gender inclusion and helped provide seed capital, training, and mentorship to more than 24,000 young Africans.
