PZ Cussons Nigeria Opens New R&D Innovation Centre to Accelerate Product Development
PZ Cussons Nigeria has commissioned a rebuilt Research and Development (R&D) Innovation Centre, reinforcing its commitment to innovation-led growth and the development of products tailored to the needs of consumers across Nigeria and Africa.
The state-of-the-art facility, officially inaugurated on June 29, 2026, by the Chief Executive Officer of PZ Cussons Nigeria and Managing Director, Africa Business Unit, Oghale Elueni, is expected to accelerate product development, strengthen quality standards and enhance collaboration across the company's research, technical and commercial teams.
Designed as a modern innovation hub, the centre features advanced laboratory technology and collaborative workspaces that will enable the company to transform local consumer insights into high-performing products more efficiently.
The investment forms part of PZ Cussons' broader strategy to strengthen its portfolio of locally-loved brands across its Home, Personal and Baby Care categories, while driving sustainable growth in its key African markets.
Speaking at the commissioning, Elueni described the new facility as a strategic investment in Africa's future and a significant milestone in the company's innovation journey.
"Our new R&D Centre is a strategic investment in Africa's future and a clear demonstration of our commitment to innovation-led growth. By innovating in Africa, we are creating products that better meet local needs while strengthening our brands and long-term competitiveness," he said.
According to him, the investment underscores the company's belief that research and development remains central to long-term business growth by enabling faster innovation and delivering greater value to consumers and shareholders.
Beyond expanding the company's innovation capabilities, the centre is expected to shorten product development cycles, improve product safety and quality, and foster closer collaboration among scientists, engineers, product developers and commercial teams.
For PZ Cussons Nigeria, the facility represents more than an upgrade of existing infrastructure. It provides a stronger platform for developing products that address the evolving needs of African consumers while supporting the company's long-term ambition to build market-leading brands from within the continent.
Global R&D and Sustainability Director, Sharon Goodall, and Africa Supply Chain Director, Ifeanyi Abadom, said the innovation centre reflects the company's vision of combining science, creativity and collaboration to deliver products developed in Africa for African consumers.
"Our new R&D Innovation Centre is inspired by science and driven by innovation. This investment gives our teams the environment and capabilities to create the next generation of locally-loved brands that are proudly developed in Africa for Africa," they said in a joint statement.
They noted that the project was the result of close collaboration across the company's Africa Business Unit, Marketing, Research and Development, and Supply Chain teams, creating an environment where innovation can flourish.
The commissioning of the Innovation Centre further strengthens PZ Cussons Nigeria's position as one of the country's leading consumer goods manufacturers and reinforces its focus on leveraging local insights, scientific research and technological innovation to develop products that resonate with consumers while driving sustainable business growth.
