NIMN Elects New Council, Leadership Team to Drive Next Phase of Growth
The Nigerian Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has ushered in a new chapter in its leadership journey following the successful conclusion of its 2026 Council Elections, which saw members elect a fresh team of officers and Council representatives tasked with driving the Institute’s strategic growth and strengthening the marketing profession in Nigeria.
The keenly anticipated election, conducted through a technology-enabled voting process, attracted significant participation from members across the country and culminated in the emergence of respected marketing professionals who will help shape the future direction of the Institute.
At the forefront of the election outcome was Dr. Yakasai Ibrahim Yusuf, fnimn, who secured a resounding mandate as First Vice President. Running unopposed, Dr. Yusuf garnered 332 votes, representing 78.49 per cent of the total votes cast, reflecting the confidence and trust reposed in him by the Institute’s membership.
In the contest for the position of Second Vice President, Dr. Chidi Nwankpa Sylvanus, fnimn, emerged victorious after polling 229 votes, equivalent to 54.14 per cent of votes cast. His victory came after a competitive race against Dr. Nwosu Evelyn Irekpitan, fnimn, who secured 176 votes, representing 41.61 per cent.
The election also produced a new crop of Council Members who will play critical roles in policy formulation, governance oversight and the advancement of the Institute’s objectives.
Leading the pack was Ms. Amachree Sundayba Sandra, fnimn, who topped the Council poll with 253 votes, representing 59.81 per cent of the total votes cast. She was followed by Dr. Joda Kehinde Adegbemiga, fnimn, who secured 224 votes, accounting for 52.96 per cent.
Also elected to the Council were Chief Gbagi Hope Moninu, fnimn, who polled 206 votes (48.70 per cent); Mr. Akomolafe Ayoola Obafemi, fnimn, with 203 votes (47.99 per cent); Mr. Junaid Bolaji, who received 183 votes (43.26 per cent); Dr. Igwe Chinyere Emmanuel, fnimn, who garnered 156 votes (36.88 per cent); and Chief Niyi-Ladipo Abisola, fnimn, who secured 147 votes, representing 34.75 per cent of votes cast.
The electoral exercise was conducted electronically through the VOTA platform powered by Chamsmobile Limited, further demonstrating NIMN’s commitment to leveraging technology to deliver transparent, credible and efficient governance processes.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Shuaib A. Abubakar, fnimn, formally endorsed the results on behalf of the committee, bringing the electoral process to a successful conclusion.
According to him, voting commenced at 12:00 noon on June 15, 2026, and closed at 9:00 a.m. on June 20, 2026. The election recorded an impressive voter turnout, with 423 out of 725 registered voters participating in the exercise, representing 58.34 per cent voter participation. A total of 302 registered members did not cast their ballots during the voting period.
Industry observers have described the election as another milestone in the Institute’s efforts to strengthen democratic governance, enhance member participation and consolidate its position as the foremost regulatory and professional marketing body in Nigeria.
With the emergence of the newly elected officers and Council members, attention now shifts to the implementation of policies and initiatives that will deepen professional excellence, expand member value, promote innovation and further elevate the role of marketing as a catalyst for national economic development.
The newly elected leadership is expected to work closely with the Institute’s President and Council to build on existing achievements, accelerate institutional reforms and position NIMN for greater relevance in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven marketing landscape.
