Guinness Nigeria Appoints Zainab Bakare as Brand Manager for Ready-to-Drink Portfolio
Guinness Nigeria has appointed Zainab Bakare as Brand Manager for its Ready-to-Drink (RTD) portfolio, entrusting her with responsibility for driving growth, innovation and consumer engagement across two of the company's flagship brands, Orijin RTD and Smirnoff Ice.
The appointment marks another milestone in Bakare's steadily advancing career and reflects Guinness Nigeria's confidence in her ability to strengthen brand relevance and deliver sustainable business growth in Nigeria's highly competitive beverage market.
In her new role, Bakare will oversee brand strategy, product innovation and marketing initiatives aimed at deepening consumer connections while expanding the market presence of the company's RTD portfolio.
Announcing the appointment, Bakare described the opportunity as an exciting new chapter in her professional journey, expressing enthusiasm about leading brands that have become integral to Nigeria's beverage culture.
She said her focus would be on delivering culture-driven experiences, introducing innovative consumer offerings and building stronger emotional connections between the brands and their audiences.
Bakare joins Guinness Nigeria with a wealth of experience in brand management, business strategy and integrated marketing, having built an impressive career across both multinational consumer goods companies and leading marketing communications agencies.
Before joining Guinness Nigeria, she spent nearly four years at AB InBev, where she held several strategic leadership roles across brand management and business operations.
Most recently, she served as Brand Manager for Flying Fish and Castle Lite, leading integrated marketing campaigns designed to accelerate growth, enhance consumer engagement and strengthen the brands' competitive positioning.
Her responsibilities included developing brand activation programmes that aligned commercial objectives with evolving consumer expectations while delivering measurable business outcomes.
Earlier, as Business and Brand Projects Lead, Bakare expanded her expertise beyond conventional marketing into project execution, budgeting, resource management and cross-functional collaboration, experiences that helped shape her approach to business leadership.
Reflecting on that phase of her career, she noted that the role reinforced the importance of data-driven decision-making and demonstrated that sustainable business success is achieved by combining creativity with analytical discipline.
According to Bakare, effective marketing leadership requires more than compelling creative campaigns. It demands the ability to translate consumer insights and business intelligence into strategic decisions that generate measurable commercial value.
Her career progression reflects that philosophy.
Prior to her tenure at AB InBev, Bakare developed strong strategic planning and account management capabilities through roles at some of Nigeria's leading marketing communications agencies, including Insight Publicis, CentrespreadGREY and SO&U.
At Insight Publicis, she served as Strategy and Account Planning Executive, contributing market intelligence, consumer insights and strategic recommendations that informed brand positioning and campaign development.
Her earlier roles at CentrespreadGREY and SO&U provided valuable experience in account planning, business strategy and consumer behaviour analysis, laying the foundation for her subsequent transition into brand leadership.
Over the years, Bakare has built expertise spanning brand strategy, product innovation, campaign execution, stakeholder management, communications, project management and business planning, establishing herself as a well-rounded marketing professional with strong commercial acumen.
Her commitment to continuous professional development has also distinguished her career. She recently completed the Advanced Brand Management Programme of BMA Nigeria, further strengthening her capabilities in strategic brand leadership, profitability management and long-term brand development.
Academically, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from the University of Ilorin and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Marketing at Ajayi Crowther University.
Industry observers say Bakare's appointment reflects the growing demand for a new generation of marketing leaders capable of blending creativity with business intelligence, data analytics and operational excellence.
As she assumes responsibility for Guinness Nigeria's Ready-to-Drink portfolio, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how she leverages her broad experience to accelerate innovation, deepen consumer engagement and strengthen the market performance of Orijin RTD and Smirnoff Ice.
Her appointment also underscores a broader shift within the marketing profession, where leadership is increasingly defined not only by creative excellence but by the ability to combine strategic insight, commercial discipline and consumer understanding to deliver sustainable business growth.
