Bogo Beverages Limited has commissioned a ₦20 billion manufacturing facility in Ikorodu, Lagos, in a major expansion drive aimed at increasing production capacity, creating jobs and strengthening its footprint in Nigeria's fast-growing food and beverage market.

The state-of-the-art facility, one of the company's largest investments since commencing operations in Nigeria in 2022, will manufacture a wide range of products including carbonated soft drinks, fruit juices, bottled water, spirits and bitters. The investment positions the indigenous beverage company to compete more aggressively across multiple product categories while serving as a springboard for expansion into other African markets.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Bogo Beverages, Godwin Oche, described the project as more than a manufacturing investment, saying it reflects the company's long-term confidence in Nigeria's economy and consumer market.

"This factory represents much more than investment in infrastructure. It is an investment in people, innovation, quality and the future of our nation," Oche said.

He noted that the facility would significantly expand the company's product portfolio, improve operational efficiency and deliver greater value to consumers, distributors, employees and other stakeholders.

The commissioning comes at a time when manufacturers are ramping up local production to reduce dependence on imports, strengthen domestic value chains and tap into Nigeria's large and youthful consumer population.

Beyond the domestic market, Oche said the Ikorodu plant would serve as a strategic export hub for the company's operations across Africa.

"We now have the opportunity to distribute to our branches in Ghana and Kenya, while also expanding into new markets around Cameroon and other neighbouring African countries," he said.

According to the company, the investment is expected to generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs spanning manufacturing, logistics, distribution, retail and other support services.

The facility is equipped with automated production lines, energy-efficient systems and a modern quality assurance laboratory built to international manufacturing standards. Commercial production is expected to commence immediately, with products reaching the market within weeks.

Providing details of the plant's capabilities, Bogo Beverages' Supply Director, Richard Edzeame, said the non-alcoholic beverage section features a carbonated soft drinks production line capable of producing 24,000 bottles per hour, with an annual output exceeding eight million cases.

The facility also houses a Doypack packaging line with a capacity of 5,000 pouches per hour for juice and water products.

Its alcoholic beverage division comprises a PET production line with an annual capacity of 1.3 million cases, alongside a glass bottling line dedicated to products such as Giga Bitters and Tribal beverages. Supporting infrastructure includes a 45,000-litre ethanol storage tank, a 10,000-litre bitters and spirits processing plant, syrup and juice processing rooms, cold storage facilities and a comprehensive utilities management system.

"This is a complete factory of world-class standards," Edzeame said, adding that the company plans to introduce additional products in the coming months as part of its innovation pipeline.

Government officials described the investment as a significant boost to Nigeria's industrialisation agenda.

Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Olushina Shobande said the project demonstrates growing investor confidence in Nigeria's private sector and Lagos' business environment.

She noted that investments of this scale not only expand manufacturing capacity and create employment but also strengthen linkages between agriculture and industry by increasing demand for locally sourced raw materials.

"As the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, we are particularly excited about the opportunity this expansion presents for stronger partnerships between manufacturers and our agricultural value chains," she said.

The commissioning ceremony attracted government officials, traditional rulers, business leaders and industry stakeholders, including the Customs Area Controller, Lagos Industrial Command, Adebola Salawu; the Alajede of Ijede Kingdom, Oba Adefarasin Saheed Hassan; Managing Director of Sanden Intercool Nigeria Limited, Aziakpono Festus; alongside executives and partners of Bogo Beverages.

The Ikorodu facility underscores Bogo Beverages' ambition to deepen local manufacturing, accelerate innovation and position itself as a leading player in Nigeria's beverage industry while expanding its presence across the African continent.
