ARCON Inaugurates Committee for Special Recognition Awards
The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has inaugurated a Special Recognition Awards Committee to oversee the planning and delivery of its forthcoming Special Recognition and Advertising Standards Panel (ASP) Awards, an initiative aimed at promoting regulatory compliance, ethical practice and professional excellence in Nigeria's marketing communications industry.
The awards will recognise advertisers, agencies, media organisations and other industry stakeholders that have demonstrated exemplary compliance with advertising regulations and industry best practices. The programme will also honour public and private sector organisations, as well as individuals whose leadership, innovation and commitment have contributed to the growth and ethical development of Nigeria's advertising and marketing communications sector.
The inauguration ceremony, held on June 18, 2026, in Lagos, marked the commencement of preparations for the awards, which are expected to bring together regulators, policymakers, industry professionals, corporate organisations and other stakeholders across the country's marketing communications ecosystem.
Speaking at the inauguration, ARCON Director-General, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, urged members of the committee to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, professionalism and fairness in carrying out their assignment.
According to him, the awards are intended to celebrate organisations and individuals whose contributions have strengthened innovation, regulatory compliance and ethical practice within the industry.
"This committee has been entrusted with an important responsibility. The credibility of the awards will depend on a process that is transparent, inclusive and guided by excellence. We are confident that the calibre of individuals appointed to serve will ensure that the awards remain a respected platform for recognising merit and inspiring higher standards across the industry," Fadolapo said.
The committee has been tasked with developing the awards framework, establishing nomination and assessment procedures, coordinating stakeholder engagement, supervising the selection process, mobilising partnerships and sponsorships where necessary, and ensuring the successful execution of the awards ceremony.
ARCON said members of the committee were selected based on their professional competence, industry experience, integrity and commitment to advancing excellence in the marketing communications sector.
The committee is chaired by Yinka Adebayo, Group Executive Director, Omnicom Media Group West and Central Africa.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Adebayo thanked ARCON for the confidence reposed in its members and pledged to deliver a credible and transparent awards process.
"We recognise the significance of this assignment and the expectations that accompany it. The committee will work diligently to ensure that every stage of the process reflects fairness, accountability and excellence. We look forward to delivering an awards programme that commands the confidence and respect of stakeholders," he said.
Fadolapo reaffirmed ARCON's commitment to strengthening regulatory compliance and promoting professionalism through initiatives that recognise outstanding performance, encourage healthy competition and support continuous improvement across the advertising industry.
The council said details of the award categories, nomination process, eligibility criteria, timelines and the date of the awards ceremony will be announced at a later date.
