The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has honoured distinguished advertising professionals, government officials, brands, agencies and institutions for their contributions to the development of Nigeria’s advertising industry and their commitment to professional excellence, ethical practice and regulatory compliance.
The recognition was made at the 2026 ARCON Special Recognition Awards (ASRA), held on Friday at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, under the theme, “An Evening of Many Honours.”
The ceremony brought together stakeholders across advertising, marketing communications, government and the corporate sector to celebrate individuals and organisations whose contributions have helped shape the industry over the years.
The awards also provided an opportunity to honour the legacies of distinguished professionals, including those who have passed on, whose work continues to influence advertising practice in Nigeria.

Advertising, Public Trust and National Interest
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr Binyerem Ukaire, congratulated the recipients and urged them to sustain their contributions to national development.
He emphasised the significant influence of advertising on public opinion, consumer behaviour and societal values, stressing the need for truthfulness and accountability in advertising practice.
“I recognise the significant influence advertising has on public opinion, consumer behaviour and societal values. Truthfulness, transparency, fairness, and accountability must therefore remain the foundation of the industry. Responsible advertising protects consumers, defends public truth and enhances the credibility of the profession. Commercial success must never come at the expense of ethical standards and public interest.”
Ukaire described the awards as a significant initiative for celebrating excellence while reinforcing adherence to the standards governing advertising practice in Nigeria.
His remarks placed the recognition within a broader context, highlighting the responsibility of the advertising industry not only to build brands and drive commercial outcomes, but also to communicate responsibly in a way that serves consumers and the wider society.
ARCON Looks Back to the Industry’s History
For ARCON, the 2026 edition of ASRA was also an opportunity to acknowledge the people whose contributions laid the foundations for the industry as it exists today.
The Director-General of ARCON, Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, said the awards were designed to recognise individuals and organisations whose dedication, innovation and professional contributions have made a meaningful impact on the industry.
Reflecting on the significance of the lifetime achievement and posthumous award categories, Fadolapo said:
“We have a great history as an industry and this ceremony is to acknowledge the significant impact of individuals who made the industry what it is today.”
He noted that the awards provide an opportunity to celebrate achievements that demonstrate professional excellence, ethical conduct and compliance with regulatory requirements, while inspiring others to contribute to higher standards within the sector.
The emphasis on lifetime and posthumous recognition gave the ceremony a historical dimension, connecting the achievements of past industry practitioners with the continuing development of advertising practice in Nigeria.
Compliance and the Responsibility of Brands
The Chairman of the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP), Dr Emmanuel Agu, also drew attention to the importance of regulatory compliance, particularly its role in protecting consumers, strengthening brand reputation and promoting fair competition.
According to Agu, adherence to advertising standards helps ensure that commercial communication remains truthful, decent, responsible and consistent with societal values.
He noted that the recognition is not just about rewarding those who have complied with established standards. It is about celebrating organizations that have chosen to lead by example, demonstrate that creativity and innovation thrive best within a framework of responsibility and ethical conduct.”
Agu’s position reinforces the relationship between advertising creativity and accountability. For brands and agencies, regulatory compliance is not simply a procedural requirement; it is also closely linked to consumer trust, corporate reputation and the credibility of the advertising industry itself.
Celebrating Excellence Across the Industry
Also speaking at the ceremony, Yinka Adebayo, Chairman of ASRA and Group Managing Director of Omnicom Media Group, West and Central Africa, stressed the importance of recognising professionals who continue to uphold the standards of the industry.
He said:
“We are here to celebrate professionals who ensure that professional practice is kept alive. Event such as this reminds us all that excellence deserves to be celebrated and that those who contributed to the growth of our industry should be recognized and encouraged. We hope that this recognition will continue to inspire excellence.”
His remarks underscored the role of recognition in encouraging professionals and organisations to continue investing in excellence and contributing to the growth of the advertising ecosystem.

The range of categories and recipients reflects the changing character of Nigeria’s advertising landscape, where brand building increasingly intersects with consumer experience, technology, innovation, public communication and corporate reputation.
More importantly, the 2026 ASRA placed professional recognition alongside a broader conversation about the responsibilities that come with influencing consumers and shaping public perceptions.
For ARCON and the wider industry, the message from the ceremony was that advertising excellence cannot be measured solely by creativity or commercial performance. Professionalism, ethical responsibility, consumer protection and regulatory compliance remain central to building a credible and sustainable advertising industry.
