Who Takes the Mantle? NIMN Sets Stage for Presidential Media Chat Ahead of 2025 Elections

The race for the next President of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) is heating up as the Institute prepares to host a pivotal Presidential Media Chat on June 13, 2025 at 6pm.

The event will serve as a formal platform for presidential candidate(s) to present their manifestos, share strategic blueprints, and engage directly with members ahead of the highly anticipated elections.

Organized as a Town Hall-style meeting, the media chat offers a critical opportunity for members to interrogate the visions and leadership philosophies of aspirants vying to succeed Mr. Idorenyen Enang, the current President, whose second term in office comes to a close. His tenure has been widely acknowledged for its transformational strides within the Institute and the broader marketing profession.

The election is scheduled to hold during the Annual Marketing Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to Mr. Shuaib Abubakar, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, a candidate must secure at least 51% of the total votes cast to be declared winner. In the case of a tie, the Committee will resort to a drawing of lots to determine the elected candidate.

Only members in the grades of Associate, Full Member, and Fellow who are financially up to date with their membership dues as of December 31, 2024, will be eligible to vote and participate in the AGM. The Institute’s official Register of Financial Members, signed and authenticated by the Registrar, will serve as the electoral roll and will be published on the NIMN website no fewer than 30 days before the election.

Voting will be conducted electronically via a secure platform, with eligible members receiving their login credentials via the email addresses and phone numbers registered with the Institute.

In the event of a single candidacy, the Electoral Committee reserves the right subject to Council approval to proceed with a vote of affirmation at the AGM.

Each candidate will be permitted to appoint agents to observe and monitor the electronic voting process, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Electoral Committee.

Election results will be officially announced by the Electoral Committee Chairman at the AGM venue.

As anticipation builds, the Presidential Media Chat promises to be a defining moment, one that will not only unveil the aspirations of those seeking to lead NIMN into the future but also deepen member participation in the democratic process of the Institute. For many, the outcome may signal either a continuation of reform or the beginning of a new chapter in the professional marketing landscape in Nigeria.
