Nneka Enwereji has officially stepped into the role of Managing Director and Citi Country Officer (CCO) for Nigeria and Ghana, marking a significant milestone in her impressive 31-year career with Citi. Enwereji, a seasoned banking professional with extensive experience across Markets, Corporate & Investment Banking, Transaction Services, Risk Management, and Operations, takes over from Ireti Samuel-Ogbu, whose leadership she praised as exemplary.
In a statement shared on her LinkedIn page, Enwereji expressed her excitement and gratitude, stating, “It’s an honour to continue the incredible work done by Ireti Samuel-Ogbu, an outstanding leader. Enwereji’s new role as MD/CEO of Citibank Nigeria and CCO for both Nigeria and Ghana underscores her proven track record in growing businesses, deepening client relationships, and building strong partnerships across the banking sector. Throughout her three-decade-long career with Citi, she has held various strategic positions, including Managing Director and Executive Director, Vice President/Trade Product Specialist, and Head of Africa Trade Services.
A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University with a First-Class Honors in Computer Science and Economics, Enwereji also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the prestigious Warwick Business School. She has served on the board of Citi Nigeria as an Executive Director and held non-executive positions on other boards, highlighting her deep influence in the corporate world.
