NIMN Takes Strategic Steps to Bridge Academic and Industry Gap

In line with its mandate to enhance the quality of marketing professionals and foster a synergistic relationship between the academic community and practicing marketers, the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) has launched strategic initiatives with multinational companies across the country.

Mr. Idorenyen Enang, President and Chairman of the Council of NIMN, revealed these initiatives during the Annual Marketing Conference, which commenced yesterday in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Mr. Enang highlighted that, in addition to a series of learning and development interventions initiated through strategic partnerships—particularly with the Lagos Business School—the Institute has started discussions with multinational companies. These collaborations aim to provide students and lecturers of marketing with practical experience, enhancing their understanding of the field, while the organizations benefit from the valuable data and research the academic community can offer.

“Last year, we partnered with Lagos Business School and have conducted two programs this year. We are now preparing for the next, the Marketing Leaders Program. The ultimate goal is to integrate members of the academic community into these initiatives,” Enang stated.

He further elaborated on the significance of these partnerships, mentioning that Nestle has expressed intent to offer internships to marketing students. “However, to benefit from such opportunities, one must be a member of the Institute of Marketing. Once we see positive outcomes from the students, the next step is to involve the lecturers. How do we integrate industry practice with academic theory?”

“For us, it is not about quantity but quality,” the President emphasized.

He encouraged students to increase their participation in Institute activities to take full advantage of these initiatives and enhance their professional growth.

The three-day conference continues today with exciting and captivating conversations centered around the theme: “Empowering Nigerian Brands: Leveraging Local Content for Global Success.” Attendees can look forward to insightful discussions led by a highly reputable and experienced lineup of speakers.
