NAC 2023: Mega Brands, Agencies bag ASP Compliance Award
The Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) aimed to promote strict adherence to regulatory standards in advertising has bestowed the prestigious ASP Compliance Award on distinguished Mega Brands and Agencies.
This recognition underscores their commitment to upholding ethical practices through the proper submission and vetting of advertising campaigns to the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP) before exposure.
At the gala night ceremony during the third day of the National Advertising Conference in Abuja, Dr. Lekan Fadolapo, Director General of ARCON, disclosed that this second iteration of the award was specifically designed to uphold the pinnacle of ethical standards within the advertising industry. Its primary aim was to recognize and reward those who diligently adhered to all the prescribed guidelines set by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP).
He confirmed that the award selection process underwent rigorous scrutiny, aided by external auditors to ensure thorough evaluation and adherence to the stipulated criteria.
“Some organisations that were given nomination letters were disqualified because infractions were established against them. An independent auditor was invited to audit the process for integrity purpose. The award will stimulate competition among the stakeholders” he added.
On her part, the Chairperson of the Advertising Standards Panel, (ASP) Chairperson Omowunmi Owodunmi, representing the ASP, underscored the body’s role in maintaining industry standards by vetting and approving marketing materials, guaranteeing ethical compliance within the Nigerian media landscape. The award aimed to foster a culture of adherence to the code of advertising practice, acknowledging exemplary compliance among advertisers and agencies.
“What we do is to ensure that all the materials that are passed to us for vetting and approval comply with the code of advertising practice. We do that on a regular basis and we also have a process that ensures that whatever goes out into the Nigerian media space complies with ethics, standards and integrity of our Advertising Profession. Over the years, we have identified that some of our advertisers and agencies who bring materials for vetting and approval have done very very well in terms of complying with the code of advertising”.
Brands and agencies that bagged this prestigious award include, MTN, Cway, X3M Ideas, Airtel, Noah’s Ark, Globel Print and Adverts, Insight Publicis, Nigerian Breweries, SBI Media Limited, Access Bank, Paul Zen Empire, Airpeace, Coca-cola, Algorithm Media among others.
This esteemed recognition aimed to promote adherence to guidelines established by the Advertising Standards Panel (ASP), emphasizing the vetting and pre-exposure submission of advertising campaigns.
The 2023 National Advertising Conference which held from December 6th to 8th had in attendance the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Mohammed Idris, Former Registrar of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi, Director of Nigeria Broadcasting Commission Mohammed Idris Malagi among other notable personalities.
