In a momentous debut, The Brand Colossus proudly spotlights Carol Ofem Somorin, a distinguished figure in the realm of marketing communications, in its inaugural magazine edition. This feature is a part of our initiatives to commemorate International Women’s Month, dedicated to honoring the dynamic achievements of women within the marketing communications industry.
Carol holds a Master’s Degree from Manchester Metropolitan Business School in International Public Relations and boasts over thirteen years of extensive experience in the Nigerian advertising, Public Relations, and Brand Management sectors.
Throughout her career, Carol has spearheaded campaigns for a diverse range of clients spanning industries such as Oil and Gas, FMCG, Financial Institutions, Fashion Retail, and the Auto-tech Sector. Notable brands she has collaborated with include Addax, Total, FAAN, Honeywell, MainOne, Pan Ocean, Schneider Electric, Samsung, Pepsi, Absolut Vodka, Golden Penny, Dangote, First Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, MTN, Nampak (CanDo), Tangerine, VBank, USAID, and many more.
Her professional journey has seen her serve in pivotal roles, including as Brand Marketing Manager for Ruff’n’Tumble and later as Consumer Sales and Marketing Manager for Cars45, where she orchestrated strategies to boost sales volume and oversee marketing activities across Nigeria.
Beyond her corporate endeavors, Carol has lent her expertise to international and local startups, as well as NGOs, leveraging her deep understanding of the Nigerian market and consumer trends to drive impactful initiatives.
Before returning to Nigeria, she honed her skills at Euro Bis Lancaster (now HavasPR) in the UK, working with renowned brands such as IKEA, Pets at Home, ASDA, Chewits, and Oxfam. She also dedicated her talents to NGOs, harnessing her master’s degree in Public Relations and Strategy to aid in donor targeting and sector development.
In her role as Group Head of Account Planning and Strategy at SO&U Limited, Carol led strategic management efforts, facilitating business growth for prominent clients such as Enterprise Life Assurance, Access Bank, Globacom, Unilever, and Malta Guinness.
Currently serving as the Director of Strategy at YBR (Yellow Brick Road), Carol continues to leverage her core competencies in research and insight analysis to develop impactful strategies for brand campaigns and business portfolios.
