Guinness Nigeria announced the successful empowerment of 250 women running small businesses (nanopreneurs) in Oyo State through its Plan W initiative. The milestone was celebrated at a training recap and asset handover ceremony in Ibadan, attended by distinguished guests including Hon. Mrs. Toyin Balogun, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, and Hon. Muftau Olatunde Ogunremi, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State on SDGs.
Launched in 2019, Plan W has transformed the lives of 1,150 women across Nigeria. It provides a comprehensive support system, including workshops, essential business tools, seed capital, and ongoing mentorship, ensuring the women’s sustainable business success. In collaboration with Sightsavers Nigeria, 10% of the beneficiaries are People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), promoting a diverse and inclusive environment.
Adebayo Alli, Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria, highlighted the initiative’s impact and ambitious future goals at the ceremony. The company aims to empower an additional 250 women in Lagos State by the second quarter of 2024, bringing the total to 1,400 women. Their ambitious goal is to double this impact by 2027, reaching more lives and fostering lasting change across Nigeria.
Plan W operates on a “Triple Win” principle: benefiting individuals, families, and the nation. By investing in women, the initiative enhances employability, boosts family incomes, and strengthens Nigeria’s GDP while promoting sustainable business practices.
