Golden Morn Introduces Eco-Friendly Packaging, Reinforces Commitment to Sustainability

Nestlé Nigeria has unveiled new sustainable packaging for its popular Golden Morn cereal, marking a significant step toward aligning the brand with environmentally responsible practices. The move highlights Nestlé’s broader goal of delivering both nutritious food and minimizing its environmental footprint. This packaging shift further solidifies Golden Morn’s 38-year legacy of nourishing Nigerian households with locally sourced ingredients, while advancing its sustainability efforts.

The newly introduced packaging is designed with a strong focus on recyclability, in line with Nestlé’s global target of ensuring that over 95% of its plastic packaging is recyclable by 2025. The updated packaging replaces the previous aluminum foil with a more eco-friendly laminated material that simplifies the recycling process and reduces the product’s environmental impact.

“At Nestlé, we understand that our responsibility goes beyond providing nutritious food we also have an obligation to safeguard the environment for future generations,” said Wassim Elhusseini, Managing Director of Nestlé Nigeria. “Currently, more than 80% of Nestlé’s packaging in Nigeria is optimized for recycling, and we are thrilled that Golden Morn’s new packaging reflects our continued leadership in sustainable practices by transitioning to recyclable laminate from the aluminum foil previously used.”

The Golden Morn cereal has been a breakfast staple in Nigerian homes for nearly four decades, known for its delicious taste and rich nutrient profile. Made from locally sourced maize and soya, the cereal is fortified with essential vitamins and minerals like vitamins A, B1, B5, C, and iron. With the new 100% recyclable laminate packaging, Golden Morn is doubling down on its dedication to both nutrition and environmental conservation.

Omofasa Orhiunu, Category Manager for Dairy at Nestlé Nigeria, echoed these sentiments, noting that Golden Morn’s mission extends beyond just being a breakfast choice. “Golden Morn isn’t just a cereal—it’s a brand with a purpose. We are deeply committed to nourishing families across Nigeria while protecting the environment for the generations to come. The introduction of our sustainable packaging is a major milestone, and we’re excited to continue delivering the same trusted taste and nutritional value that has been a part of Nigerian households for over 38 years,” said Orhiunu.

Golden Morn’s commitment to sustainability is also reflected in its focus on local sourcing. By procuring 100% of its maize and soya from Nigerian farmers, the brand ensures both high-quality ingredients and economic support for local agricultural communities. This partnership not only guarantees fresh ingredients for consumers but also strengthens the country’s agricultural sector and empowers local farmers.

The updated Golden Morn packaging features a vibrant, modern design with striking colors and graphics that emphasize the cereal’s key ingredients and health benefits. This aesthetic improvement complements Nestlé’s ongoing efforts to stay ahead of market trends and consumer expectations. The new look enhances the visual appeal of the product while supporting the company’s sustainability objectives.

“By adopting recyclable materials for Golden Morn, we are significantly reducing waste, and this is a clear demonstration of our commitment to environmental stewardship,” Elhusseini added. “At Nestlé, we continually strive to improve and innovate, and this new packaging reflects our dedication to being at the forefront of both nutrition and sustainability.”

With this initiative, Nestlé Nigeria further aligns itself with its global sustainability goals, ensuring that its packaging innovations contribute to a more sustainable future. As the company continues to evolve, its focus remains on balancing consumer needs with the planet’s well-being. The launch of the sustainable packaging for Golden Morn not only elevates the brand’s image but also reinforces its leadership in responsible environmental practices.

The introduction of this new packaging is part of Nestlé’s broader strategy to refine its product offerings in response to changing consumer preferences and the growing demand for eco-friendly products. By enhancing both the appearance and environmental impact of its packaging, Golden Morn remains committed to setting industry standards in nutrition and sustainability.
