Nigeria’s indigenous telecommunications giant, Globacom Limited, has celebrated 22 years of pioneering innovation and service, expressing gratitude to millions of subscribers whose loyalty has powered its journey since 2003.
In a goodwill message to its customers, the company noted: “22 years of Glo is a story of resilience and strength, and through every storm, you, our loyal subscribers, have powered our network. With every connection, you have fuelled our growth.”
Launched on August 29, 2003, Globacom disrupted Nigeria’s telecom sector with landmark innovations such as per-second billing and the drastic reduction in SIM card costs, making mobile services more accessible to millions.
Since then, Glo has invested extensively in network expansion, building one of Africa’s most robust fibre optic infrastructures to connect urban centres and underserved communities. Its landmark project, Glo 1, the first privately-owned submarine cable in Africa has boosted broadband capacity, strengthened global connectivity, and accelerated Nigeria’s digital economy.
Beyond connectivity, the brand has rolled out innovative voice and data packages that put affordable communication within reach. It has also contributed to national development by supporting sports, entertainment, education, and the arts, showcasing Nigerian and African creativity on the global stage.
