In pursuit of its commitment to empower students with valuable skills and hands-on-learning, the Baptist Academy Old Students Association (BAOSA) of the 1978/83 Set, in collaboration with renowned brands, has donated a cutting-edge vocational center to its alma mater.
This donation is part of activities earmarked to commemorate the association’s 40th anniversary. The vocational center which is well equipped with modern equipment and work tools to cater to Carpentry, Electrical, Welding, and Plumbing Skills is sited in the school’s premises in Obanikoro, Lagos.
Commissioning the project, The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu, represented by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, lauded the initiative which is geared to enhance learning and capacity development in the school.
He said: “In his words, “As we stand on the threshold of a new era let us dedicate ourselves to the cause of education. Let us resolve to provide every child with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed. Together, we can create a future where every young mind has the chance to flourish.
“In dedicating this legacy project, we honour not only our shared past but also the promise of a brighter future. It is a commitment to excellence, a promise to nurture talents, and a vow to uphold the values that define us as a community”.
Meanwhile, in his welcome address,
the Chairman 78/83 Set, Ademola Adebise had restated the association’s commitment to foster education and learning particularly vocational skills.
His words “Our mission is clear: we aim to bridge the gap between traditional academics and practical, hands-on learning. The world is rapidly evolving, and technical and vocational skills are in high demand.
“With this center, we want to ensure that our students are equipped to thrive in an ever-changing job market, to be job creators rather than just job seekers. We believe it will instill in them the values of perseverance, innovation, and dedication to nurture them to their full potential.
Ademola Adebise who disclosed that the groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 24, 2022, expressed appreciation to the partnering brands that contributed to the realization of the dream.
Also speaking, the National President of BAOSA, Akintunji Fatunke assured that the association will continue to introduce developmental project for the school.
On his part, the Principal Baptist Academy, Abiodunrin G. Emmanuel who elated, commended the BAOSA 1978/83 Set for the donation and promised that the centre would be used judiciously as the centre would undoubtedly raise the standard of teaching and education in the school.
The partnering brands include CIG Motors, Wema Bank Plc, RoadPost Inc. Canada, Coleman Wires & Cables, Locks, and Switches, Lumber Works Ltd, and Kam Industries.
