In a bold move to reinforce hygiene and restore dignity to frontline sanitation workers, Aspira Nigeria Limited, makers of Viva detergents, has donated 500 brand-new uniforms to the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing battle against waste and environmental challenges.
The donation, announced in Lagos, is part of a partnership aimed at supporting frontline sanitation workers and improving service delivery in Africa’s most populous city, which continues to grapple with the twin challenges of waste management and flooding.
Speaking on the initiative, Aspira’s Head of Advertising and Public Relations, Lynda Aguocha, said the collaboration was driven by the company’s longstanding commitment to cleanliness and public health.
“We are more than just a household name; we represent a dedication to hygiene and healthy communities. At Aspira, we believe that a clean environment is the foundation for a thriving society, and LAWMA shares this vision. Together, we are working towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos,” she said.
Echoing this, Aspira’s Marketing Officer, Bikash Swain, noted that the company’s philosophy goes beyond business success. “This initiative reflects our belief that community well-being and environmental sustainability are integral to growth. Supporting LAWMA is our way of giving back to the city we serve,” he added.
While receiving the uniforms, LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, described the gesture as timely, coming at a moment when Lagos is intensifying its sanitation drives, including the planned reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
“With Aspira’s support, we are confident of achieving greater results for the environment and the people of Lagos,” Gbadegesin said.
Aguocha further explained that the partnership with LAWMA was less about branding and more about recognising the tireless efforts of sanitation workers. “Viva exists to help keep Nigerian homes clean, while LAWMA works to keep our streets and markets safe and sanitary. The connection was natural. This initiative is about giving dignity, confidence, and pride to the workers who keep Lagos moving,” she said.
The 500 uniforms, branded under Viva Plus, will be distributed across LAWMA’s workforce, equipping waste management officials with essential gear to carry out their duties more effectively.
