Seplat Energy Begins New Era as Effiong Okon Assumes Office as Chief Executive Officer
Seplat Energy PLC has officially commenced a new chapter in its corporate journey with the appointment of Effiong Okon as its Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, effective August 1, 2026, following the retirement of long-serving CEO Roger Brown.
The leadership transition marks the end of Brown's 13-year tenure as Chief Executive Officer and Board Director, during which he played a pivotal role in transforming Seplat Energy into one of Nigeria's leading indigenous energy companies. His retirement took effect on July 31, 2026, paving the way for Okon to lead the company's next phase of growth.
In his first message as CEO, Okon expressed appreciation to the Board, shareholders, employees, investors, joint venture partners, regulators, host communities, contractors, business partners, and other stakeholders for their confidence and unwavering support in building the company.
"I am honoured to begin serving as Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy," he said. "I am grateful to the Board and Shareholders for their confidence, and to our employees, investors, JV partners, regulators, host communities, contractors, business partners, past leaders, the immediate past CEO, Roger Brown, and all stakeholders whose commitment has helped build Seplat into the company it is today."
Outlining his strategic priorities, Okon said the company would remain focused on delivering its 2026–2030 Business Plan and fulfilling the commitments made during its Capital Markets Day. He noted that Seplat would continue pursuing profitable growth through safe and responsible operations, while accelerating the monetisation of its hydrocarbon resources, expanding its gas business, and creating sustainable value for Nigeria and all stakeholders.
He also revealed that the company is already looking beyond its current strategic cycle, with plans to unveil a new corporate strategy from 2027 to support its long-term growth ambitions.
"Our focus remains clear: delivering our 2026–2030 Business Plan and Capital Markets Day commitments, pursuing profitable growth safely and responsibly, accelerating the monetization of our hydrocarbon resources, expanding our gas business, and creating lasting value for Nigeria and our stakeholders," Okon stated.
Expressing confidence in the future, the new CEO said Seplat's success would continue to be driven by its people, strong corporate governance, strategic clarity, and disciplined execution.
"I am optimistic about the opportunities ahead. With our people at the centre, and guided by strong governance, strategic clarity, and disciplined execution, we will continue to unlock Seplat's limitless potential. The next chapter starts now."
Before his appointment, Okon served as Managing Director of the ANOH Gas Processing Company and has built an extensive career across Nigeria's energy industry. His elevation to the top leadership position is expected to strengthen Seplat Energy's drive towards expanding its gas portfolio, enhancing operational efficiency, and delivering long-term value as the company navigates the evolving energy landscape.
The appointment signals Seplat Energy's commitment to leadership continuity and strategic execution as it positions itself for sustained growth and increased contribution to Nigeria's energy security.
